While the kids were away this summer, Josh and I did an amazing tour of parts of Scandinavia.
Scandi style is possibly my favorite design style.
Although I like to mix it up a bit, if I could I would live all Scandi all the time. Next house?
We started out in Copenhagen. Perfect town!
Danish mode of transportation.
The colorful fun on the Nyhavn canal in Copenhagen.
Bike likes.
We took a quick trip to Louisiana, the modern museum outside Copenhagen.
Awesome small museum. Lovely train ride.
Near Louisiana museum, a beach for wading.
At Schonnemann, a famous Danish dining institution (like going to our Galatoire’s for lunch)
Josh was enjoying the snaps.
And I kinda like the traditional smorrbrod open faced sandwich. Swimps galore!
One of my favorite Danish brands, Hay House, lots of great makers here.
Bike tour view. Everyone rides bikes in Copenhagen. We loved doing the same.
Amazing old and new on display in Copenhagen.
Doors of Copenhagen.
We splurged one day and rode our bikes over to the No. 1 rated restaurant in the world, Noma. 2 Michelin stars and full of inspiration.
A salad here of chocolate covered oaxalis.
At Noma a toothpick made from a tree twig.
The interior space was so beautifully danish. Warm, textural and sleek. Loved it so.
(We also loved Manfred or Vin in the neighborhood of Norboro.)
As always with most travel destinations, we found the graffiti area.
In Christianshavn, crazy street art in Chrsitinia. Must see in Copenhagen’s Hippieville.
This guy is famous for his rodent graffiti all over the world.
Saying goodbye to our sweet little Hotel SP34. Nice quiet spot, but close to everything! Super chic!
We headed off to our next stop, the island of Gotland in Sweden. We found an AMAZING boutique hotel called Fabriken Furillen.
18 rooms on a deserted industrial landscape. Wild and untamed. Simply gorgeous.
Oh my. Words cannot tell you how in love we were with this hotel and this island.
But the pictures, well, they say a lot.
Room number 1.
Outdoor gathering spot.
Breakfast anyone? Chickens on site.
A new young chef, Filip Fasten, who was chef of the year in Sweden, was there to make our meals. Fresh carrots from the garden with honey glaze and elderflowers.
Bikes to use.
Cozy dining room where they make their own gin.
Gotland sheepskins.
Lavender for picking.
The morning joe, in the communal kitchen.
Vignette form the dining room. I am obsessed with this gray color!
Bike riding to the shore. Along the lavender path, no less.
Josh enjoys the view.
Some friends find a fork in the road and are having trouble deciding which way to go. The struggle.
The rocky shore collection.
Our dinner garnish, in the wild.
We took the ferry over to the island of Faro one day and really enjoyed driving this lovely island and meeting it’s inhabitants.
Cafe on Faro.
Lunch of smoked shrimp.
Cafe seating area.
Precious antique boat houses.
Loved them all.
Josh checking the cuties out.
They all had a personality.
The rock formations on the coast.
Dinner spot was quite a hike to get to. Nystroms is a great coffee shop. Nice article about this restaurant in the NYTimes.
We were too late for dinner at Benganas Matsal, because the line for the ferry from Faro was 2 hours long. So we made to the sister restaurant.
Josh likes the bar.
Big love for Gotland.
Onward to Stockholm. Wow what a town. And can I show you the hotel Ett Hem?
OMG!!! This is pretty much the reason I wanted to go to Stockholm. Kidding, not kidding!
Our room key.
Sitting area in Room 5.
The lobby.
Located in what they call the Ostermalm area or the opulent Ostermalm. Every detail is looked after. It is like you are staying at a friend’s amazing home. The staff is excellent, chic and knowledgeable. The food, worthy of a Michelin star. The rooms are just magnificent, we had a bath tub in ours overlooking the church steeple nearby. The location is in a quiet area, but close to everything (a bike ride away!) Simply perfect, as were most things in Sweden.
Chair detail.
The 2nd floor landing.
The outdoor dining table, in the patio of Ett Hem. Plywood pieces, stacked and screwed together, then laquered in white. Inspiring!
The 3rd floor landing. Those sconces!
Josh is in heaven with his first meal in Stockholm. Herring and more herring.
In Gamla Stan (the old part of the city). Beautiful cobblestone, winding streets.
Lena M gallery. So cute!
Ah ha moment in Stockholm. Even the soft serve is perfection.
Shopping in Stockholm is pretty awesome. From the NK department store to the cute shops in Sodermalm. We had a great time checking it all out! Loved Grandpa.
I do love you Stockholm.
My fav Acne Studios. I think we hit every Acne store in Stockholm.
Svenskt Tenn a swedish shopping experience. Josef Frank’s whimsical style in the house.
Lots to look at.
A lovely biking city.
We checked out the Fotografiska, photography museum. Really great! And the Moderna Museet. A must see.
But our favorite was the ABBA museum. Super Swedish stardom.
We found an outdoor food festival and partook in crab, Swedish style.
We did an Archipelago tour one day and traveled by boat around the thousands of islands outside Stockholm. Our boat, the Stockholm.
A tiny boathouse view.
A Fika (a Swedish tradition of having a coffee with someone) on the tour.
We had some great food in Stockholm too. Our favorite probably the chef’s table at Gastrologik. a crazy tasting menu presented and explained in detail by the chef himself. A very cool experience.
Josh at Oxen Slip, on a beautiful canal location.
At Lisa Elmqvist, a seafood restaurant legend, this was a lunch to remember. Josh especially happy.
Stockholm, simply gorgeous from every angle.
