In honor of Mathilda’s 15 birthday, she wanted to go see Matilda the Muscial in NY. Good idea. So in honor of Mose’s 14 birthday (a little/lot early) Josh decided to take Mose to see his favorite baseball team of the moment. The LA/Anaheim Angels. Great idea! We left within hours of each other and here are some of the highlights, of which there were many. We’ll start with the girls trip. We landed and headed to my favorite stop in NYC, ABC Home. It did not disappoint, although since this was Mathilda’s trip, I didn’t get to do the whole 6 floors. (another time). One of the windows.
Next we hit the Shake Shack and had yummy Shakes, of course, in the lovely Madison Square Park.
Next to the Dr. Martens at Union Square for a birthday gift of boots. It was a very long, hard decision, and many texts with fashionable friends, but she found the ones.
A late night in bed with the movies and finally waking up with a pretzel in front of the Met.
We saw an a show there called Punk: Chaos to Couture. Awesome show with tons of Alexander McQueen. Some favorites here. I always buy a book at exhibitions, especially when there is no photography allowed. Photos courtesy of TheMet.com
We headed over to MOMA to see an Ellsworth Kelly show. MJ ready to go it seems.
Lunch was at Ellen’s Stardust diner. Now I read about this place as I was researching things I thought Mathilda would like to do in NY. And this one was at the top of the list. A diner where all the wait staff sings to the patrons the whole time. They really sing and were very good. She loved it so much. The food was bad. But who can mess up cake. The first of many birthday cakes.
The place.
After lunch we headed to The Shubert Theatre to see Matilda. Very exciting. It was a really great show and we had awesome seats. So creative. No photos allowed in the theatre. We cheated a little.
The next morning was her birthday. Breakfast in bed. Happy bday MJ!
We got a late start and walked the High line, which was near our hotel. Lovely weather, cool and sunny. We got lucky. Grafitti wall.
Lucky enough, that is to see Uncle Kyle for lunch at The Standard High line. More cake for the birthday girl.
Next, we headed way uptown to Dylan’s Candy Bar. No NY trip would be complete without stepping into the wonderful world of candy that is Dylan’s, at least in Mathilda’s world. Bags were filled.
We went out for dinner and saw Newsies with Kyle and Mathew that night. It was a great show. Lots of cute boys dancing. All enjoyed.
On our last day, my friend Suzanne and I had prearranged a meeting with Mathilda and her friend Zoe, who have been friends since they were little, but now live in different cities. It was Zoe’s birthday, too and we surprised her in the Brandy Melville of Soho shop. She was surprised. It was a great day spent shopping, lunching and walking with the teenage besties. Late night flight home. Yay! New York!
So, the other coast was rocking, too. Mose and Josh were visiting Josh’s Aunt Ann and enjoying some time together in LA.
Loving LA.
They went to 2 Angels games and at one of them, Mose called over Mike Trout. He is his favorite player and he came over and signed his baseball. Mose was to the moon.
They had an amazing time at the games. Ball park food galore.
The TROUT hat.
Some shopping in Santa Monica.
Now, when we reconvened at home on Esplanade we celebrated the 15 year old girl. With the lamest cake I have ever seen. (it was last minute) But we sang and kissed.
She also decided, being the social butterfly that she is, that she wanted to have a pool party with some friends, so here are some pics of the crazies. Donut theme.
The donut cake.
The girls hanging out. Wow, these girls have grown up!
Still silly though.
